Explosives recovered in B’luru; case filed

Police in Bengaluru recovered gelatin sticks with detonators and other explosives near a school in the city, they said on Tuesday.

An officer on patrol spotted the explosives in a tractor near temporary sheds put up for construction workers at Chikkanayakanahalli on Sunday.

Police in the locality, which is under the Bellandur station limits, sought details from workers at the site but didn’t recieve a “satisfactory reply” from them.

“We suspect that these could have been kept by the labourers to break rocks for constructing buildings,” a police official said, reports PTI.

Police have registered a case under the Explosives Substances Act and launched an investigation.

The discovery comes just weeks after a blast at the Rameshwaram Cafe in which nine people were injured. The manhunt for the culprit is still on, three weeks later.

The suspect in the blast has been identified “in a way,” according to Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara, who added that investigators were working to apprehend him.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is leading the probe, assisted by the Bengaluru police’s Central Crime Branch (CCB).
