The attackers, members of The Resistance Front – an offshoot of the banned terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba, opened fire on tourists in the popular Baisaran meadow, killing 26 and leaving several injured.

Security agencies have shared sketches of three terrorists who attacked tourists in Pahalgam, Kashmir. The attack killed 26 tourists and injured many others. The terrorists have been identified as Asif Fuji, Suleman Shah, and Abu Talha.
These attackers are part of a group called The Resistance Front, which is linked to a banned terrorist group named Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). They opened fire on tourists at the famous Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam. This is one of the worst terrorist attacks in Kashmir in recent years.
Around 5 to 6 terrorists, wearing army-style clothes and kurta-pyjamas, came to the Baisaran meadow from the nearby thick pine forest and started shooting with AK-47 rifles.
According to intelligence sources, some of the attackers were from Pakistan and had entered Kashmir just a few days before the attack. A top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander, Saifullah Kasuri, also known as Khalid, has been identified as the main planner behind this deadly attack.
Security forces have started a large search operation and are using helicopters to find the terrorists, who ran away using the forest as cover.
Early investigations and survivor statements show that the terrorists used military-level weapons and advanced communication tools. This suggests that they had outside help and support.
The way the attack was planned and carried out shows that trained professionals were involved, not just local people.
Intelligence agencies also found digital clues linking the attackers to safe houses in Muzaffarabad and Karachi, proving that this was a cross-border terrorist act.
TV reports showed a photo of a man running with an AK-47 rifle in his hand. However, it is not yet confirmed if the photo is real.
This attack is being called the deadliest since Article 370 was removed in 2019. At least 28 tourists were killed and many more were injured on Tuesday.
The attack happened at Baisaran meadow, a beautiful place about 7 kilometers from Pahalgam town. It is a popular tourist spot known for its natural beauty and peaceful surroundings.
Survivors of the attack said that six foreign terrorists, wearing Army-style uniforms, chose their targets based on religion. They asked people to tell their names and recite Islamic verses. If someone couldn’t do that, they were shot at close range.
The attack happened around 1:30 pm, while tourists were relaxing in the beautiful Baisaran meadow, surrounded by snow-covered mountains and pine trees. Even though the area had many security checkpoints and patrols, the attackers managed to get through and create panic in what should have been a peaceful place.
Security forces have launched a big search operation to find the terrorists. “The search is still going on, and we are doing everything to catch the attackers,” said the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps in a statement.
In a separate incident, the army also stopped an infiltration attempt near the Line of Control (LoC) in Baramulla. On April 23, 2025, 2 to 3 unknown terrorists tried to cross into India through the Sarjeevan area at Uri Nala in north Kashmir.
The army said alert soldiers stopped them and there was a gunfight. The operation is still happening.
